No. I was convinced by a wise man that picking people like Jade Dernbach was what made England an inclusive modern country.
Its not a position you can really argue against.

I see the Pakistan leg spinner has made the ashes squad. Strange, always thought it was frowned upon

That's what we do with S Africa
3 Tests in Australia in Nov / Dec & then 3 in S Africa in Feb/Mar as neither team wants 5 away Tests and no home cricket over Christmas.
It's effectively a split series but each one is counted separately.
S Africa have won the last two in Australia. But haven't won a series at home against Australia since 1970.

Re: Cricket World Cup : *Official thread*
Actually, we play you in 3 tests in Feb in NZ as well, so that makes sense, but then there's nothing scheduled for about 4 or 5 years apart from some meaningless ODis and T20s

Re: Cricket World Cup : *Official thread*
I often think Haddin is putting his behaviour on a bit. I hope so. He is certainly no Adam Gilchrist. Met Gilly when a WACA member and he really is the nicest man in cricket.

The Windies used to get 5 Tests in Australia but have been so dismal I am surprised they haven't been given the November slot as well as being wound back to 3 Tests.
Can only think the scheduling was done a couple of years ago as NZ in the Boxing Day Test would be better. That said NZ may be like S Africa who often want to play at home on Boxing Day so prefer the early Tests.

Re: Cricket World Cup : *Official thread*
Speaking of the West Indies, how on earth are they on the prime Christmas/New Year tour slot, when your close neighbours, who incidentally beat you in the last test played 4 years ago, only get the early season series?

The Windies have been terrible for at least a decade now, so it's not as if the series was scheduled when they were good, and we were shit.

Re: Cricket World Cup : *Official thread*
I think players that aren't going to be around for the next World Cup tend to retire. That's how you win 5 of them.
Haddin will continue in Tests but suspect like Chris Rogers & Ryan Harris he is looking at the Ashes as an end point so that the new keeper can start with a home series (New Zealand & West Indies) next Australian summer.

Re: Cricket World Cup : *Official thread*
If I see him on the street Sven, I won't miss him.

Is he retiring altogether, or just retiring from being a cockhead in ODI's so he can concentrate on being a cockhead in Tests for another couple of years?

Re: Cricket World Cup : *Official thread*
From what I have seen today the squad for the West Indies and the Ashes will be named tomorrow.
Word is that Peter Nevill of NSW will be picked as second keeper after averaging 75 in the Sheffield Shield and that Ashton Agar will be picked as the second spinner. Rest of the Windies squad should be pretty straight forward allowing for Ryan Harris sitting out.
From what I've seen none of the replacement keepers are quite as competitive as Bradley Haddin.
You will miss him when he is gone.

Which of those options is the most obnoxious Sven?

I believe that's the first selection criteria.

Re: Cricket World Cup : *Official thread*
There aren't any ODI's that matter til 2019 so I suspect the selectors will use the position to audition potential Test keepers as I would suspect Haddin might do the Windies series and the Ashes before being moved aside next Aust summer.

There is no one nailed on but a few like Peter Handscomb, Peter Nevill, Ryan Carters , Matthew Wade and Sam Whiteman will be jockeying for position.

That's excellent Sven.

Haddin retiring from ODI's.

Who's the new dick behind the sticks going to be?

Not many people I hate without even meeting them, but he's one.

Re: Cricket World Cup : *Official thread*
This made me laugh from Brad Haddin who I suspect is retiring from ODI's

Australia's World Cup winning wicketkeeper Brad Haddin has defended his sledging in the World Cup final against New Zealand, saying the Kiwis "deserved it".

"They were that nice to us in New Zealand and we were that uncomfortable," Haddin told Triple M in Sydney.

"I said in the team meeting: 'I can't stand for this any more. We're going at them as hard as we can.'
"It was that uncomfortable. All they were was that nice to us for seven days.

"I said, 'I'm not playing cricket like this. If we get another crack at these guys in the final I'm letting everything [out]'. "
